Abstract

Objective:

To provide a comprehensive overview of the published literature regarding the effect of spirituality on health and healing.

Data Sources:

I searched MEDLINE from 1976 to 1999 using the terms “spirituality,” “religion,” “faith,” “healing,” and “health.”

Data Synthesis:

Strong scientific evidence suggests that individuals who regularly participate in spiritual worship services or related activities and who feel strongly that spirituality or the presence of a higher being or power are sources of strength and comfort to them are healthier and possess greater healing capabilities. Numerous research investigations have reported positive correlations between spirituality and decreased rates of stroke, cancer, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, drug abuse, suicide, and general mortality. It has been suggested that faith is beneficial for health and healing because it helps people avoid unhealthy behaviors such as smoking and excessive drinking. However, studies designed to statistically control for such factors also report positive associations between spirituality and health in individuals with unhealthy behaviors.

Conclusions/Recommendations:

The impact of spirituality on health and healing is a topic that has been virtually ignored in the disciplines of athletic training and sports medicine. Because of their lack of exposure to this topic, most athletic trainers are unaware of the many positive associations that exist between spirituality and health and healing. The available literature base regarding this topic is quite large; its findings need to be explored and integrated into our profession.

Spiritual Healing is the third studio album by American death metal band Death, released on February 16, 1990, by Combat Records. This album was out of print, but it has been reissued by Relapse Records as of November 2012.[7] It is the band's only album to feature both guitarist James Murphy and bassist Terry Butler and the last to feature drummer Bill Andrews. This is the first of Death's albums to show Schuldiner's lyrics moving away from the gore and horror themes of previous works, focusing instead on themes of society including abortion, genetics, and televangelism, a direction that would be further refined on 1991's Human album. The musical content is more obviously melodic, a facet highlighted by James Murphy's characteristic lead guitar playing. The members of Death and their manager/co-producer Eric Greif stayed in a single motel room at the Safari Inn, near Busch Gardens, for the entire six weeks the album was recorded and mixed, although bassist Terry Butler and drummer Bill Andrews frequently went home as they lived in the Tampa area.

Empires: Dawn of the Modern World is a detailed real-time strategy game that lets you completely command unique, historically accurate civilizations, from China to Germany and the United States. Whether in the Middle Ages or World War II, lead your nation to dominate the globe. Empires dawn of the modern world downloads Empires: Dawn of The Modern World is a real-time strategy game in which you take control of one of nine different civilisations and lead it to victory over your rivals by collecting resources and capturing your enemies'.

This was the final Death album cover painted by Ed Repka. This period was one of massive controversy for Death, as Butler and Andrews toured Europe without Schuldiner (who refused to do the tour on the basis that it had been badly organised), with vocalist Louis Carrisalez in his place. Butler and Andrews were dismissed from the band following this incident.

Greif played a Kawai K1 keyboard part in the middle of title track 'Spiritual Healing'.
